Summer will be here before you know it, so it's a good time to start thinking about stocking your freezer with tasty treats to help you cool off when the warm weather hits.
While you can buy ready-made treats, there are great ways to create healthy alternatives that your family will love.
To help keep your family cool this summer, try some of these great recipes:
Fromage frais lollies
If you don't have a lot of time, one of the easiest frozen treats just requires pots of fruit fromage frais and ice lolly sticks. Fromage frais frozen lollies are ready in a few hours and are sure to be a hit with big and little kids.
Simply pierce the lids of the fromage frais in the middle and insert the lolly sticks. Pop them in the freezer lolly stick up and allow them to freeze solid. When frozen, you just have to take the lids off and push the lollies out of the pots.
These are sure to become a firm favourite.
Frozen fruit yoghurt
Frozen yoghurt is a healthier alternative to ice cream that offers the same creamy consistency. You can easily make tubs of frozen yoghurt with minimal fuss and only three ingredients. The best part? It can be ready to eat straight away!
Simply blend frozen berries - such as strawberries, blueberries or raspberries - with fat-free natural or Greek-style yoghurt and a tablespoon of honey for sweetness. Keep blending until you have a smooth consistency and then serve it up.
If you want to make it advance, do the same thing but pour the mixture into a freezer-proof container and put in the freezer for when you want it.
Frozen vanilla mascarpone yoghurt
If you prefer a plainer option for serving up with other puddings, vanilla frozen yoghurt could be the perfect choice. This recipe uses mascarpone too, creating a rich and creamy iced dessert that is incredibly tasty.
Simply mix plain natural yoghurt, mascarpone, honey, a small about of olive oil, vanilla extract and vanilla seeds together before popping in a freezer-proof bowl.
Freeze for an hour and then use a fork or a whisk to mix it in order to break up the ice crystals. Repeat this process every hour until completely frozen. Then you can just serve and enjoy.
Strawberry and banana smoothie pops
Smoothies are a tasty and popular drink, so why not freeze them to create a delicious dessert?
Just make a strawberry and banana smoothie by blending fresh strawberries, a touch of vanilla extract, semi-skimmed milk or almond milk and a couple of bananas until smooth. Pour into ice lolly moulds and freeze overnight.
You can also make these with other smoothie recipes, allowing you to create a range of healthy ice lollies.
Mango and coconut ice lollies
For a refreshing and tropical take on ice lollies, all you need is frozen mango and coconut cream. This simple recipe results in creamy and fruity tasting treats that are perfect on a really hot day.
Simply combine your two ingredients and pour into ice lolly moulds before freezing overnight.
Fresh fruit lollies
Another simple and refreshing choice that has no additives is fresh fruit lollies. All you need to do is slice up pieces of different fruits - you can literally use almost anything - and place them into ice lollies moulds. Just be sure to leave room for liquid so you can pour unsweetened coconut water in them too.
Pop the lolly sticks in and freeze them until solid. This is a great treat for children as they are still colourful and sweet but don't have all the added sugar.
